Lamps using Plastic Folders

As an Industrial Designer student before, we were given a project about lamps and one of them is reusing plastic folders. See details below.

Beforehand, here’s a little fact about this project.  This is originally done by a Danish designer Holger Strøm in 1973 from the firm Iqlight.

First, you need sheets of translucent plastic folders. Make sure that they allow light to pass through. You can choose any colors. Then, trace the shape below.

The shape of your lamp shade will depend on the number of shaped sheets you have. What makes it more amazing is that you could create at least 132 different lamps in 6 various sizes as shown in Iqlight.  You just have to play with your imagination and skills.

Connect the pieces together by joining the curve ends.

This is originally designed as a lighting system so prepare a lamp fixture – socket on a cord and a fluorescent bulb so you can get more light without melting the plastic. The color of your light will go with the color of your shaped sheets. Place it inside the shade you made and hang it or place in on the floor.

Additionally, you can also use it as a decoration only, no light, like we used to have them at home. However, you can always turn its light off during daytime if ever you put lighting in it.

Fashion Jewelry

With various parties to attend, it’s important every outfit you choose to wear does not look the same every time. However, this does not mean that you have to spend a lot of money. Instead, gather up your collection of accessories and transform them that will suit your dress for the event.

Viola! You’re ready to go…the red carpet is waiting for you.

Bongga Bonita

During the Spanish regime (16th and 17th century) in the Philippines, elite women wore their gowns with elegant hats and headdresses. Bongga Bonita is a Spanish term for Fabulous Girl. Bongga Bonita is decorated with beads and embellishments around the fabric hat and a see-through face cover or net attached around the rim of the hat. Any girl wearing this to match her gown will look stunning. Bongga!

Baboy Chair

From the Visayan term of pig or “baboy”, Baboy Chair is produced. Its back is formed as a round seat covered with foam while the rest of it depicts the whole body of the pig. They say, your house may sometimes describe your character. So, when Baboy Chair is likely to be found inside a house, you’ll automatically know that the owner is a pet lover or just fond of domestic animals. It’s nice to have this in a native home.

Additionally, the designer of this is not a horse…she is a pig! A pig, a pig, a pig! She likes to eat then sleep. A total pig. She designed this because she realized it describes her nature. Hahahahahahahahaha… 😀

Kingky Love Seat

Kingky is the combination of the words “king” and “kinky”. Kinky means wavy and sexy. This is an all-purpose furniture, perfectly paired with cushioned and throw pillows, which presents a sensual room and can be ideally positioned in a living room or beside a king size bed. A rack is found under the loveseat which may contain magazines, toys, etc.

Does that line sounds familiar to you? Well, it’s in the movie Transformers Dark Side of the Moon! Hahaha

What a coincidence! This furniture is also a transformer – not into a robot, of course!
